Michael A. Carvin is a Partner in the Washington, DC office of Jones Day and a member of WLF’s Legal Policy Advisory Board. In his 35 years at the Justice Department and in private practice, Mr. Carvin has established himself as one of the leading appellate and trial lawyers challenging state and federal regulations on constitutional and statutory grounds, with 10 Supreme Court arguments and numerous high-profile victories. In addition to his numerous cases in the Supreme Court, he has argued in virtually every federal appeals court.

Ms. Sherry returned to the firm in October 2014 after serving five years as an assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States. She has argued 10 cases before the Supreme Court. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Sherry served as a law clerk to Justice John Paul Stevens, and to Judge Diana Gribbon Motz of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

He practices in the firm’s Litigation Department and its Appellate and Constitutional Law and Intellectual Property practice groups. He has participated in 21 cases before the Supreme Court, including representing the successful Petitioner this term in Murphy v. NCAA. He clerked for Judge Joseph M. McLaughlin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Judge John G. Roberts, Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
