POSITION: Director of Development and Public Affairs
REPORTS TO: Constance Larcher, President and Chief Executive Officer

For more than 40 years, Washington Legal Foundation (WLF) has served as the nationís premier public-interest law firm and policy center. WLFís mission is to protect and preserve Americaís free-enterprise system by litigating, publishing and advocating for a limited and accountable government, individual and business civil liberties, and the rule of law. To-date, WLF has filed over 1,400 legal briefs in state, federal, and U.S. Supreme Court cases, submitted more than 840 comments to various state and federal administrative agencies, and prepared more than 2,500 legal studies publications. These briefs and publications are a key resource relied upon by our nationís decision-makers, which include the judiciary, government leaders, policy officials, attorneys, academic professors and the media.

WLF is seeking to hire a Director of Development and Public Affairs who will contribute to every aspect of Washington Legal Foundation’s fundraising efforts, including, but not limited to:

  • Targeting potential new donors across 16 different industries through systematic outreach featuring WLF’s publication, communication, and litigation efforts 

  • Preparing letters and other donor-centric materials to solicit general operating support from individuals and corporations 

  • Identifying new opportunities for support from private foundations and preparing grant proposals for both general operating support and special projects

  • Cultivating relationships with WLF’s existing donor base and performing outreach on behalf of the CEO and other members of WLF’s team. 

  • Performing administrative tasks where needed, such as answering phones and assisting with WLF’s bi-weekly mailings and large-scale donor mailings

A Bachelorís degree with at least three (3) years of experience working in development. Strong knowledge of fundraising strategies, skilled use of databases (Raiserís Edge preferred). Experience using research sources for collecting information on individuals, firms, and other organizations.
