On October 14, 2008, WLF filed formal comments with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service supporting proposed rules that would streamline and expedite the interagency consultation process under the Endangered Species Act between other government agencies and the Services to determine whether proposed agency action, such as permits and funding of projects, would impact endangered or threatened species and designated critical habitat. WLF supported the rules that would exempt consultation on projects that involve release of greenhouse gases because their connection to global warming and harming species is too remote and speculative.
