The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in this important First Amendment case on November 10, 1999. On August 13, 1999, WLF filed a brief with the United States Supreme Court urging the Court to affirm a court of appeals ruling which held that compelling objecting students to pay “student fees” to subsidize the political activities of activist campus groups violated the students’ First Amendment rights. In its brief filed on behalf of itself and its client, The Committee For A Constructive Tomorrow, WLF argued to the Court that compelling college students to subsidize the political speech and lobbying activities of activist groups violates the objecting students’ fundamental First Amendment rights not to be forced to subsidize the speech of others.
