Julie Kearney is Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™, the technology trade association representing the $321 billion U.S. consumer technology industry. Ms. Kearney represents CTA’s 2,200 member companies before the FCC, FTC, FDA, and other government agencies. Prior to joining CTA, she held positions in government affairs at NPR, in MCI’s International Affairs group, and as an associate at Haley Bader & Potts (now Garvey Schubert Barer). She serves as President of the Federal Communications Bar Association (FCBA) and is a past chair of the FCBA Foundation and a trustee of the CTA Foundation.
Jim Trilling is a Senior Attorney in the Federal Trade Commission’s Division of Privacy and Identity Protection. He previously worked in the FTC’s Division of Advertising Practices. At the FTC, he has led policy initiatives, investigations, and litigation enforcement actions involving a wide range of consumer protection issues, including online privacy, data security, and the installation of malware on consumers’ computers. Before joining the Commission, Mr. Trilling litigated a variety of cases at a law firm in Washington, DC, and clerked for then-U.S. District Court Judge David F. Hamilton.
Courtney S. Young is the Senior Attorney for Risk Management at the Medmarc Insurance Group. Her primary responsibilities include the development of resources on products liability avoidance and regular correspondence with brokers, policyholders, and underwriters in efforts to evaluate and mitigate products liability risk. Ms. Young works with drug and device makers, component-part manufacturers, and raw-ingredient suppliers before and after products liability claims to identify and assess their products liability exposures and mitigate future liability.
H. Michael O’Brien is a Partner with Wilson Elser in the firm’s White Plains, NY office. He is co-chair of the firm’s Product Liability, Prevention & Government Compliance practice and leads the Internet of Things aspects of Information Governance. He is also a member of the Information Governance Leadership Committee. With more than 30 years of experience in product liability defense, Mr. O’Brien focuses on representing U.S.- and Asia-based manufacturers and distributors as national counsel in litigation, pre-suit investigations and class actions. He also advises clients on reporting obligations to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and counsels them on voluntary recall issues.
